Occupying a headland draped in lawns and bush, this is NZ's most significant historic site. Here, on 6 February 1840, the first 43 Māori chiefs, after much discussion, signed the Treaty of Waitangi with the British Crown; eventually, over 500 chiefs would sign it.
Waitangi Treaty Grounds consists of 18.5 hectares of varying landscapes from native bush, boardwalks, paths, tracks, beaches, lawns, and coastal clifftop. There is a medium gradient slope to the tracks from the upper to lower areas of the grounds. It is an accessible location for people requiring some mobility. There are wheelchairs and ramps available for use and encourage any accessibility questions or concerns to be raised at the time of booking so we are prepared to cater for your needs on arrival.
The grounds are quite hilly and hard to negotiate in a wheelchair without assistance but it is possible to get around most of the paths with a motorized wheelchair or scooter.
Wheelchairs are available free.
A mobility scooter is soon to be available on site ( We suggest you pre book )
Carparking is available and access into main building is reasonable.
Typically a wheelchair user who can walk a few steps.
Great access for young children traveling in pushchairs.
Traveling with a Caregiver.

Travelling with brother in power wheelchair. Booked through Oyster NZ. The Hangi and Concert at Waitangi was fantastic. The staff couldn't do enough for us, event putting up a ramp to get into the house was brilliant
