Eastland is a wild and enchanting place full of ancient stories. This place is the first place in New Zealand where you can catch the first sunrise of the world's new day and explore a coast that is steeped in Maori Culture. The region incorporates Gisborne, Te Araroa, Rautoria and East Cape (the easternmost point of the main islands of New Zealand). You will love the food, wine and surf beaches. The region boasts the unofficial title of 'Chardonnay Capital of New Zealand'. You will find plenty of wine trails and boutique wineries.
Kaiti Beach is located here which is the site that Captain Cook first landed in New Zealand on the 9th October 1769! Gisborne is a great place to visit to learn about Maori culture. Oral history records Titirangi (Kaiti) Hill as the point of arrival for the migratory waka (canoe), Horouta, which brought the first Maori to the area.
