MTG Theatre is a modernist masterpiece designed by leading Hawke’s Bay architect Guy Natusch.
MTG Hawke’s Bay is at home in the heart of Napier, a place where people, objects and ideas meet. Built in 1977 as a concert chamber to commemorate Napier’s first century as a city the MTG Theatre is Hawke’s Bay’s premier mid-sized venue and a central part of the MTG complex. MTG’s 330 tiered seat theatre provides an intimate setting for performing arts, film and lectures. The Theatre is home to Chamber Music New Zealand’s Hawke’s Bay concerts and the New Zealand International and Italian film festivals. It also hosts a wide range of other events throughout the year. MTG Theatre is located in the Museum complex between the Marine Parade and Herschell Street, Napier. The evening entrances are located at 9 Herschell Street and on Marine Parade .
The museum, exhibition spaces and theatre are accessible. External flat level entrances to the main entrance are on Tennyson Street.
The map above shows wheelchair access into the building. There are two accessible entrances into the building;
Through the main entrance on 1 Tennyson Street and from the Theatre foyer from Marine Parade.
Please note that for evening performances in the Theatre please use the Marine Parade entrance for accessible access.
Wheelchairs may be borrowed from the main reception desk. Please ring first to ensure that one is available.
There is lift access to the upper and lower galleries from the main reception foyer.
Accessible parking is located on Herschell Street.
Access to the century Theatre
Wheelchair access is through the main entrance on Tennyson Street and the Theatre foyer from Marine Parade.
For evening performances in the Theatre please use the Marine Parade entrance.
The Theatre auditorium is accessible through the main entrance. An upper entrance into the Theatre requires going upstairs. The balcony level has no lift access and steep stair access.
If you are in a wheelchair please ring us in advance so suitable seating can be arranged, please arrive early to Theatre events so you can be seated. For ticketed events contact us or Ticketek to book a seat suitable for wheelchairs.
