This overland safari is the only way to be taken within a few feet of 20,000 of these remarkable birds. Even better, there is no walking required because you're driven there in a air conditioned 4 x 4 vehicle. Visitors to the colony will see all ages of Gannets nesting in crowded rows, carrying out their daily routine. With an impressive two metre wingspan, these birds swoop and dive for fish from the air right above you. On the ground, pairs of birds preen and perform the gannets' recognition ritual dance. On the way view the activities of farm life, Cape Kidnappers Golf course and Lodge, as well as some of Hawkes Bay's most amazing scenery.
We recommend getting in quick to make your booking, to avoid disappointment as this is the end of season special.
Nature is truly beautiful, so snap up this chance to see a truly unique part of it.
The tour operates a 4 wheel drive vehicles (21 seats) over Cape Kidnappers Station, a working farm, out to the Gannet Colony that cannot accommodate a wheelchair.
As there are 3 steps up onto the buses, people could manage this with escorted assistance. There is no walking required on the tours and they stop right alongside the gannets at the Plateau Colony.
Coffee, tea & biscuits are served at the colony and they have no problem serving this to guests on the bus.
Toilet facilities are available at our base before and after tour departure however there are no facilities available during the tour (duration approximately 3 hours).
